District Competitions

Academic CompetitionsThe Orange Public School District will hold its final academic competitions for the school year, beginning with the district's 25 Book Challenge, "Pages For All Ages" which ends on Friday, May 31, 2013. All participating students and their school coordinators are asked to enter all of the required book tickets by Friday. Scores will be tallied and school winners and district wide winners will be announced when the Orange "Prize Patrol" visits each school.

The next district competitive forum is the district's Writer's Festival, "On the Write Track" on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Lincoln Avenue School. Click here to register for this event.

Also, on June 17, 2013, the Orange Public Schools will hold its annual TryMathlon for grades 1 - 3 and Mathquest for grades 4 - 7 at Lincoln Avenue School. All interested students may click here to register for an opportunity to participate.

NJ School Performance Report

NJ Performance ReportBeginning with School Year 2011-2012, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has significantly revised the annual school report cards, required under both federal and state legislation. The new School Performance Reports are designed to enhance both educator and stakeholder engagement in discussions about how well a school is preparing their students for college and careers. Title I Action Plans

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has released growth percentages that each school and district must achieve, based on their 2011 New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) and High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) scores. If schools did not demonstrate adequate growth in proficiency levels, school districts must post how Title I funds are being used to support those schools and the student subgroups that have not shown significant progress.  More . . .

The Orange Public Schools’ Department of Curriculum and Testing is committed to providing curriculum updates and educational materials on the district’s progress and ways to support student achievement. The department has recently published informative newsletters for parents, staff and students.

Tech BytesThe "Tech Bytes" newsletter supports the use of technology in the classroom. It contains useful links for teachers, students and parents to enhance learning in and out of school. Literacy Newsletter

The Spring 2013 Literacy News
features important information about "What to Expect on the NJASK", "How to Create a Literate Home" and "How Parents Can Encourage Teens to Read". These are just a few of the articles in the latest edition of the Language Arts Department's newsletter. For more information, contact Kathryn Carter, Director of Language Arts/Testing.

The X Factor 2013The Mathematics Department has just launched their departmental newsletter, entitled, ‘The X Factor!’. This bulletin is intended to provide readers with a variety of informative articles relating to math learning and instruction. Each issue will include information for parents, teachers, administrators, and all types of student learners. Reader suggested topics for future issues are welcome. March 2013 Science NewsletterThe 'Science Newsletter' is intended to present updated science standards and the district's efforts to strengthen and support required practices for improving student learning outcomes in science. This informative publication is targeted to staff members, along with students and their families. Fathers Reading Club

Fathers Reading Club"Calling All Men" invites you to help improve student achievement by reading to students in grades PreK-5 on the last Friday of each month.
